I am an avid proponent of personal privacy so you won’t find me on social media. Without privacy, there can be no freedom. If it is not quite clear, the tab icon on my website is a shackle breaking. And FYI, aurrad means freeman in Old Irish.

I have both a bachelors of science degree and a masters of science degree in electrical engineering from a major USA technical university. Although currently retired, my career spanned several decades working as the lead system engineer responsible for the overall architectural design of large scale processing systems for various USA federal entities.

I discovered my love of genealogy from seeing my father’s dogged pursuit of our paternal ancestry, only to hit a brick wall circa AD. It is only in the last decade that wall has begun to crack with the use of genetic genealogy tools, particularly the sequencing of the Y chromosome and the use of unique mutations. As the technology improves and more data is collected, it is my sincere hope that in the near future paternally descended Irishmen, both in Ireland and among the Diaspora, will be able to find their origins accurately and economically.

So although the specific brick wall ancestor remains as such, genetic genealogy leapt over that wall to reveal an exciting heritage as a descendant of Conn Cétchathach, or Conn of the Hundred Battles. He was one of the greatest ancient Gaelic heroes and was admired for centuries among the Gaels and their neighbors.

My love of genealogy came later in life, but I have had a love for music, song lyrics, and even poetry from my earliest childhood. I began writing songs, both music and lyrics, in my early teenage years. This branched out into stand-alone poetic works as well. Could it be genetic, given my Irish ancestry?

Regardless, please enjoy my Genelach Dáil Cuinn Project genealogy and Gaelic Wordsmith literary websites.

Cheers,
David
